The death penalty has been around for years. It was used by many different ancient civilizations, and it's tradition has survived until today. The latest death penalty that has been all over the media was the hanging of former Iraq'i dictator, Saddam Hussain. The idea of the death penalty is in essence to penalize a villian for a vicious crime he or she had committed. The supporters of the death penalty argument their support by stating that it is a way of retribuion that has been used for thousands of years, some also use he phrase from the old testament of the holy bible: "an eye for an eye". These supporters believe that it is correct for a person to judge another person and decide the criminal's destiny. On the other hand, the opposition suggests that a question of taking another human's life should be left to the hand of God, and that the death penalty is, in a way, playing God. The oppostition appears to consist mainly of christians and liberals as well as human rights acivists, whereas the supporters of the penalty are mainly conservatives of a higher class. In my opinion, that taking another human's life as a form of reribution should be acceptable in modern society. As a christian, I believe that it's strictly God's choice on what he wants to do with a human. I believe that God gave all people a chance for a life and it should only be up to him whether or not a life should be taken away. I believe that the death penalty is still a murder. I realize that many people feel very differently, seeing as how this decision could be very easily influenced by external factors, such as one's perspective on another human's race, religion, et cetera. There is an english saying that states that "justice is blind", hence it should not be prone to any kind of religious or racial influence. The problem is that places such as the state of Texas in the united states, one of the last states to sill withold the death penalty is also known for it's fairly racist nature, which is not a very good combination. People should be judged by God and not by other humans. It is not our place to kill as a form of retribution
