Wimbledon is the most famous tennis championship in the world. Held every summer at the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the competition lasts for two weeks.
Wimbledon was first hel in 1877. In those days, only men could start in competition. Nowdays, all people: amateurs or professionals, men and women can take part in the championship. Tennis players come from all over the world to compete, win a trophy and a lot of money. The prize for winning the Gentlemen's Singles Championship is a large silver gilt cup. The winner of the Ladies' Singles gets a silver salver. The prizes for winning the competitions in both men's and ladies' doubles are traditionally presented by the Duchess of Kent. To sum up, Wimbledon has excellent climat and worth watch this championship.
