Mandrake Linux 9.2 + CD-ROM LG GCR8523B = problem
Witam.
Zainstalowałem wczoraj Linuxa, po czym padł mi CD-ROM :( Wiem, że ten linux gryzie się z LG, ale myślałem, że tylko wtedy, kiedy instaluje się go z tego napędu. Ja natomiast zainstalowałem go z nagrywarki. Wszystko poszło jak należy, ale po restarcie kompa okazało się, że BIOS ma jakieś problemy ze znalezieniem napędów. Odłączyłem CD-ROM - zaczęło działać, ale nie odpaliło się menu startowe od linuxa tylko natychmiast ruszył windows. Po kilku próbach udało mi się odpalić kompa z podłączonym napędem LG (nie reagował na naciskanie przycisku, oraz nie paliła się kontrolka), wtedy pojawiło się boot menu od linuxa ;-) Nie bardzo kumam, o co tu chodzi. Znalazłem w sieci artykuł na ten temat okazało się, że firma LG opublikowała sposób naprawy napędu, ale niebardzo wiem jak się za to zabrać. Mam do was pytanie, czy warto się w tym babrać??? Pytam o to, dlatego ponieważ mam dziwne przeczucie, że to jakaś lipa i, że ten napęd nadaje się w tej chwili tylko do kasacji. Może znacie jakieś inne metody naprawy (zakładając, że ta nie działa)???

Please follow the hardware setup instructions below.
1.Have the CD-ROM Drive connected to the secondary IDE channel as a master drive alone.
2.Do not touch or interfere with the drive while the FIRMWARE is being upgraded.
3.If an error occurs during the upgrade process, or the upgrade process is cancelled
during this process, damage to the drive can occur. This is your responsibility.
LG Cannot be held liable for mistakes or errors that occur during this upgrade process.

To upgrade only Dos mode(not windows dos)
1. Remove inserted disc in CD-ROM Drive and Connect to only master of seconary port.
2. Download the Firmware and Execution file to the same folder(ex: c:\>temp)
3. Check the Firmware and Execution files(V4plgx52.LGE & v4prime.exe)
4. Boot the computer as DOS(not windows dos mode)
5. Excute to v4prime.exe (eg: c:\temp\v4prime.exe firmware file name(V4plgx52.LGE)
if you download this file in this directory)
eg: c:\temp\>v4prime V4plgx52 ‹Don't include extension name(.lge)› then press enter.
IMPORTANT - DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE DRIVE DURING THIS PROCESS.
When the UPGRADE is complete the screen should indicate FIRMWARE UPDATE SUCCESSFUL.
Remove the bootable disk and Re-boot your PC.
NOTICE
1.You have to CD-ROM drive connect to secondary master alone.
2.Don't touch while F/ware upgrading
3.If it happen to problem when you upgrade to F/ware,it is that your responsibility.
Because of you are mistake F/Ware upgrade
Therefore you must be care for F/Ware upgrade.
